"The church with the sign"

Statement of Faith

We trust the Bible, composed of Old and New Testaments, to be the divinely inspired Word of God. As we accept no humanly devised confession or creed as binding, the Bible is our final authority for faith and practice.

We worship the triune God of the Bible, who is eternally one God in three persons.  This one, true God is most clearly revealed to us in His incarnate Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.  God is sovereign over all and that sovereignty is expressed and realized through Jesus Christ.  We confess that Jesus Christ is Savior and Lord and affirm the Lordship of Christ over the world and the church.  We proclaim the Good News of the atoning death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, knowing salvation and eternal life are granted in grace to all who trust Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.  This Gospel is the central message of the Bible.  We also proclaim the presence and power of the Holy Spirit, who leads us into truth and guides us in our understanding of God’s Word and God’s will.

We believe that the church is a gathered fellowship of regenerated believers, as sign of the coming universal reign of God.  We believe that God through Jesus Christ calls us to live as a redeemed people who claim a personal relationship to God through Jesus, who follow the Lord in believer’s baptism, who regularly gather together for worship, who share together in the Lord’s Supper, who honor the priesthood of all believers, and who live their faith as visible saints.  We are joined together in membership with the high purpose of working together to determine and do the will of God.

We believe that Jesus intends us to be an interdependent people.  Because of this, we endorse the autonomy of the local church while affirming the importance of joining with other American Baptist churches through associational relationship and cooperating with other churches in our community in a spirit of ecumenism.

We believe we are called to be an inclusive people, embracing a pluralism of race, ethnicity and gender.  We also guard the tradition of religious liberty and embrace the wisdom of separation of church and state.

We further believe that God has called us forth to such a time as this.  To live as people of hope, knowing that all creation will find its ultimate fulfillment in God and that Jesus, who reigns for ever and ever, will come again to judge the living and the dead.
